VCAS is a pozzolan material made from vitrified calcium almunina silicate. VCAS pozzolan is a “green” construction material made from industrial by-products that help contribute to the sustainability of cement and concrete products.

A pozzolan is a siliceous or siliceous and aluminous material which in itself possess little or no cementing property, but will in a finely divided form and in the process of moisture, chemically react with calcium hydroxide at ordinary temperatures to form compounds possessing cementitous properties. A pozzolanic reaction occurs when the pozzolan reacts with non-cementitous calcium hydroxide in the hydrated cement paste, to produce highly reactive cementitious calcium silicate hydrates, yielding higher strength and dramatically reduced permeability.

The controlled manufacturing process of VCAS produces an almost 100% reactive white powder, consistent in appearance and performance from batch to batch. VCAS is specifically processed to lighten its color, remove inert impurities and control particle size, and because of its controlled white color does not darken cast stone.

When used in  the manufacture of cats stone VCAS increases compressive strength, reduces chloride permeability and helps control alkali-silica reactivity and efflorescence. It also provides improved cement dispersion, mix workability and surface texture and appearance.

Cast stone manufactured with VCAS offers peace of mind to manufacturers and builders alike, knowing that their stone is more durable with beauty and integrity that will stand the test of time.

The recommended dosage rate of VCAS for cast stone is 2-3 ponds per sack of cement. For special applications where higher compressive strengths are desired, higher dosage rates may be used without affecting other properties.
